Which Tires Next?

Our first two tire reviews have had a great response (and sparked quite some discussion online!) We appreciate all the constructive criticism and input. As we move forward, we've decided that we'll ask our readers which tires you want to be the next that we test here.

After the last tires didn't quite live up to my expectations, I'm back on my Gravelkings that are nearing the end of their life. So what's next? I've identified a few tires that claim to roll fast and handle a variety of conditions: The online discussions of the previous reviews almost immediately compared the tires we tested to the offerings from Rene Herse. So their Juniper Ridge is an obvious choice. Schwalbe's G-Ones have a good reputation, too. Their G-One Speed looks a lot like the Ultradynamico Cava except that the knobs are a little bigger, so they should squirm less. The G-One Allround seems to differ mostly with taller knobs which may be good for the occasional mud we encounter on our rides. Teravail's Rutland is a bit of a dark horse here, more of a mountain bike tire. But it's said to roll fast so it may be a good choice, too. And then we have the two tires that started the Road Plus thing, the WTB Horizon and the Rene Herse Switchback Hill.

Which of these do you want us to test? Can't promise I'll buy the tire that gets the most votes but we value your input and want to know what you think. (To see the results the polling software requires that you first vote yourself.) Thanks!

  1. It may be difficult logistically, but there is talk in the community that OEM tires are crap compared to the aftermarket version of the same tire. The WTB offerings are probably the easiest to get one's hands on. If and when you test a WTB tire, try to get your hands on a pair of OEM tires plus a pair of aftermarket tires of the identical model, and try to keep the true identity hidden from your testers. Does an aftermarket WTB Horizon outperform an OEM WTB Horizon in the same size at the same pressure? Is the sweet spot pressure different between them? Do they hook up differently with identical tread pattern but maybe different tread compound?
